beware the stare of Mary Shaw,
she had no children, only dolls;
and if you see her, do not scream,
or she will rip your tongue out at the seam.
- 1940 Children Rhyme from Ravens Fair
plot: every town has its own ghost story. in Ravens Fair, it is about a ventriloquist named Mary Shaw. she kidnapped a young boy who yelled out she was a fraud. she was hunted down by townspeople. they cut out her tongue and killed her. she was buried along with her "children" - a handmade collection of 101 ventriloquist dolls. Ravens Fair began to be plague by mysterious deaths, all with their tongue cut out. Mary Shaws has returned with her dolls to seek revenge on those families that killed her. the movie was disturbing when we saw the first victim. the idea yet too new, the graphic too savage. when other victims were also killed in similar way, the effect reduced. despite the focus, the dolls didn't do much in this movie. they just sat/stand, roll their eyes n turn their heads. controlled by Mary Shaw's spirit.
in my opinion, the greatest effect of this movie - is the sound. there are scenes in the film when all the noises was slowly reduced, n we were left with the actor/actress' breathing. those scenes always managed to make everyone hold their breathes, knowing something ominous was about to happen. *shiver*
