in japanese culture, it is the girls who present their choko (チョコ, chocolate) on valentine's day (February 14). a direct way for girls to express their feelings n intentions towards the guys. there are 3 types of choko:
- giri-choko (義理チョコ, obligation chocolate) - usually cheap or bought from the store. given out to any or all male workers or classmates.
- honmei-choko (本命チョコ, favorite chocolate) - the opposite of giri-choko, usually handmade or bought from expensive store. given out only to a particular guy.
- tomo-choko (友チョコ, friendship chocolate) - exchange between female friends, could be given to close male friends as well.
