Thirst #2: Phantom, Evil Thirst, Creatures of Forever (2010)

Alisa Perne has wished for 5000 years to become human again, to be with her long lost husband, Rama, n daughter, Lalita. 5000 years later, her dream finally came true, with the reincarnated Rama, now named Ray, n daughter, Kalika. but now that she is defenseless, vulnerable, n emotional, she finds it difficult to understand n make life-and-death decisions for her victims, which she hunted no longer for herself, but for their daughter, which attained full maturity of 20 years of age, in just weeks.

Quantum of Solace (2008)

the new Bond gave a whole new feeling compare to the previous sequels. seeking revenge, it was finally not about having affairs with multiple girls. a new Bond who is both serious n humorous, making the film very enjoyable yet intensely filled with actions. definitely one recommended bond's film to catch.

Makishimamu Za Horumon: Zetsubou Billy (2007) マキシマムザホルモン: 絶望ビリー

Makishimamu Za Horumon (Maximum the Hormone) is a 4-persons Japanese punk metal band, well known for their astounding ability to mix genres. it is amazing how the Japanese blends in perfectly with the english when it comes to music. their Heavy Metal genre was nothing less impressive when compared! like the english, their photographs were often taken with exaggerated facial expressions; the vocals often screaming their heads off.

they came out with 6 albums since 1999. Zetsubou Billy (絶望ビリー) was recorded as track 2 in their 2007 album - Buiikikaesu (ぶっ生き返す), which was also used as a ending theme in the Death Note anime. the song sends thrill up my spine! definitely a recommendation if you don't mind a little loudness. below is the video for sharing purpose only.

they were antique dolls that were able to come to live when the owner wasn't watching. each with their very own background n journey, being passed from one owner to another. at the same time, they had to fend off enemies that aimed to harm them, as well as their owners along the way. more here: Suigintou.

"i saw mommy kissing santa clause underneath the mistletoe last night .." softly the song rang in the background. stood hidden among the crowd, she imagined how sweet it would be to be hanging closely with love ones during this mesmerizing season, to be held securely in a warm embrace, an embrace so familiar it soothes even the most anxious moment n experience along the journey. truly a beautiful season to be reminded of how lucky one is, how love managed to wrap one so tight, against all disparity lurking waiting only for the precise moment to swallow the mind. with this thought, she leaned even closer against him. suffering is often a great gift, an eyeopener, n not a curse many had assumed it is.

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010)

without Susan n Peter, the younger 2 of the 4 siblings, Lucy n Edmund, were brought back to Narnia, together with their cousin Eustace who happened to be in the same room with them that very moment. rescued by Prince Caspian onto a ship, they joined him on a journey to the edge of the world. they had to rescue 7 lost lords to save Narnia, fighting against evil on the dark island. each of them were tested, their worst nightmare returned to haunt them, temptation lurking at every chance to devour them.

a change of director finally made Narnia exciting! we weren't impressed with the previous 2 sequels, n therefore didn't expect much of its third. however, the moment the movie started, we were dragged all over the deck of the ship, onto the shores looking for lost lords, fighting sea serpent, there were, literally, no time for rest! unfortunately Aslan, like the last sequel, didn't have much appearance like the first. Lucy, however, were given much more chances to present herself in this sequel, taking the spotlight of Susan. growing older from the last sequel, she was nothing less stunning than Susan, n definitely as tough!

Unelucidative.

i aint no saint, she think aloud. she too lived by her very own set of principles, her own theory of life. there are humanitarianism, utilitarianism, n a whole lot more that she cant really fathomed n get it around her head. now that she recalled, it has been more than 2 years since his last lesson with them. ah, how she wished he was here with them right now. perhaps having a solution with him, a solution which they failed to come across for the longest of time. deep down she suddenly realized, cruelty need no reason after all.

the story of 4 schoolgirls, living in Hidamari Apartment, which was located right opposite their school. it was about their new life, with new friends n teachers to guide them, sharing among themselves the happiness n fears in life. anime here: Hidamari Sketch.

when the promised thrice became once, she didn't know what to expect next. clear glass fractured part by part, extending its coverage, increasing its fragility; yet it did not strengthen any fantasy-like bond as she hoped. this is the real world, she repeatedly implanted the phrase into her subconscious, only to be hit by a wave of nauseaness. as much as she feared the unspeakable, she has no intention to backdown. knowing she had to see what lay at the end of the road, she threw a bet so big her life depends on it. perhaps it was really her life that she was betting on.

Dorian Gray (2009)

Dorian Gray, a corrupted young man managed to keep his youthful beauty eternally after having his portrait painted. however the painting gradually revealed the ugliness of his soul. he had to protect it, allowing no one to discover his secret. this is a tale of power, greed n self-destruction, n the combination power of deceit, drug n sin.

finds him familiar? this is the exact Prince Caspian from Narnia. though slightly eerie, it was nonetheless very interesting to see what beauty can do to a person. a few persuasive statements n nudges managed to brainwash him, pushing him towards a corrupted lifestyle, which eventually destroy himself n those worthy of it. it was truly a beautiful tale of karma brought upon oneself.

Liaison.

while their eyes continued to linger upon each other, their action spoke a different language. sitting on the shore, he longed for his attention, yet he provoked further by showing that he was having much more fun with the others. his laughter echoed through the pool, shrieking n splashing excitedly only to see him disappearing around the corner in vain. as if a button has been switched off, he was instantly hushed, staring blankly into space. with a relationship as queer as theirs, it was far from simplicity, nor was there just two to consider.

the lives of 4 schoolgirls, led by an otaku (a person who is obsessive with anime, manga, video games). honest n mischievous, she drew smile into everyone's life, as well as annoyed some. friendship never failed them when fun is always in the air! anime here: Lucky Star.

grateful with the opportunity to chill at will, where kites soared loosely up in the sky, laughters rang occasionally from the beach, n the wind gently leaving a salty sensation behind. just when things were at its peak, a steep slope was right ahead. an unexpected outburst threw them off guard, tainted the dazzling day. soon wearied from the strain, she clang onto whatever that was leftover. deep down she knew that she was far from enough to contain him.

Durarara!! (2010) デュラララ

accepting his childhood friend's invitation, he moved to the big city for a more exciting life. he witnessed many things in the city, more than what he can comprehend. gangsters, supernatural cases, n much more that waited to be discovered. this is one anime that was completely impossible to predict, not even what will happen for the next minute, not to mention episode.

Thirst #1: The Last Vampire, Black Blood, Red Dice (2009)

the Thirst series were actually an Omnibus (reprinted) Edition of the original The Last Vampire (1994-1996) 6-books series. for 5000 years Alisa Perne has been a vampire. controlling her urges by feeding but not killing, she believes that she was the last vampire n that her secret was safe. but soon she noticed that someone knew her secret. n when her creator came hunting for her, she has to kill to survive.

Kuroshitsuji 黒執事

a 12-year-old child who was the head of a noble family had a contract with a demon, which the demon will serve as his personal butler, taking care of him as well as rescuing him when many aimed to hurt n take advantage of him. anime here: Kuroshitsuji.

Gramercy.

when she was doubtful, it was her who urge her forward; when she was troubled, it was her who boosted her spirit. her mind expanded every time, from the gentle strength behind her words. it had been countless times she thanked her. when she needed perspectives n support, n when she needed a listener, her tentativeness calmed her. sitting face to face after a month, she thanked her again over breakfast.

Tron (1982)

he was an arcade owner, also a hacker who digitally broke into software. while he was zapped into the digital world together with his programs that were designed to hack, they joined forces to outsmart the Master Control program that hold them captive. the film showed an earlier form of 3D world for computers, far too different from what was seen on screen these days. making the experience rather refreshing!

Hermitage.

out of the blue, when a chance presented itself in front of them, she jumped at it, knowing it was only logical to do so; knowing it is just what they needed, what she waited. he, on the other hand, held his doubt, unsure what is the rush, stubbornly begged to seek for his pride n balance. urging him on, she knew it was unfair, but finding no other way around it. withholding her pain, she prayed hard, hoping if she wants it bad enough, He would grant her the wish; if she wants it bad enough, He would then give him the strength to move forward with a decision that safeguard them both.

The Library of Shadows / Libri di Luca (2007)

its plot took place in a world where books were charged with magic n people were Lectors divided into 2 classes - Receivers n Transmitters. Receivers were able to invade n distort the mind of a reader; while Transmitters were able to influence its listener. when murders started to occur in the society, young Jon Campelli, a successful lawyer, were involved when the first victim was his father. he finds himself exposed to family secrets n new powers, leading a group of book-lovers to defend their life n sanctuary from those we aimed to destroy it.

originally in Danish (Libri di Luca), "The Library of Shadows" was a rather successful literal thriller. fast-paced, n with suspense divided evenly throughout the story, it was one of the very few books that manage to held my full attention all the way towards its end. its most impressive idea was the Lector concept; which at some point really seemed like they can be found somewhere in the real world!

Angel Beats! (2010) エンジェルビーツ

in a world after death, they fought for their fate n future. under one leader they gathered, to battle against the culprit that owned pre-programmed supernatural powers. given the choice to vanished after having their dreams come true, some choose to stay behind. with a rather queer plot, the anime didn't seem interesting at first glance but didn't fail to capture my attention for the rest of the episodes. not knowing what to expect for the next scene, curiosity made the anime worth anticipating.

Counterpoised.

draped herself tight with the silk blanket, trapping the heat against her body. this was when the image of the small incident came floating back into her head, replaying the whole conversation in silence. how easily a stressful life toyed with the couple, where unclear lines landed them in a mixed up confusion. bond n honesty came in handy during these severe moment, thrashing the unsought.

their first year in high school, the 4 girls happened to join the music club out of their own circumstances. together they create music, lighting up the school especially during events n festive season. anime here: K-On.

Rex II Kopitiam 丽士虾饼

continuation of the previous post, after "Old Rex Cucur Udang Cafe", here is "Rex II Kopitiam". it is located at Petanak Road, same row as Canon n in front of Chicking Eating House / Madam Tang, Kuching. with a better n more trendy atmosphere, youngsters were keener to visit this branch if compare to the previous. again the signature chili sauce (with crushed peanuts) is available, n price-list identical for both branches.

Tangled (2010)

Princess Rapunzel was kidnapped since born, hidden in the tower by an old woman called Mother Gothel because of her magical hair. Rapunzel's hair had the power to helped Gothel stayed young. for that, she needed to be locked up. Rapunzel was often curios with the outside world, when a bandit called Flynn accidentally landed in the tower, she jumped at the chance to explore with his assistance. it was a journey that changed her life!

the animation has a slight twist compared to the original storyline that we are familiar with. but Rapunzel being a fun-loving princess made her so much fun to watch! this was definitely a successful animation, making even the simplest scene so beautifully touching, mischievous n absolutely overwhelming!

too proud, too stiff to bend to anyone's will, he was ever ready to shine, with the world serves as nothing but a personalized stage. waiting for the right moment, catching the right eye, it will be the time for him to bloom, to surprise all with what he's been secretly synthesizing.

Shakugan no Shana 灼眼のシャナ

with hidden abilities in him, he helped a magical being on destroying creatures that sucked up human life. even though they started out most of the time fighting against each other, soon their bond grew n their battles became smoother as they look out for each others' back. anime here: Shakugan no Shana.

back in the old days, Rex cinema used to be popular for its fried snacks sold right outside the cinema. after the cinema was closed, several coffee shops tried to use its name for business. here are the remaining 2:

Asobi ni Ikuyo (2010) あそびにいくヨ

The story centers around Kio Kakazu , a high school freshman living in Okinawa. During a memorial service for one of his family ancestors. A mysterious girl with cat ears appears before him indroducing herself as Eris and claiming that she is an alien. However She be more troubling than he first realizes.

the anime was simply weird to start with, thus seeing characters from kampfer, & sacred blacksmith wasn't quite a surprise.

Thaumaturgy.

clearly known the magic he owns within, his persistence held her closer n closer without her sentience. for years these magical persistences he secretly hurled upon her, cloaking her, capturing her inside out bits by bits. years since, every come-together still has its impact on her. lifting the ambiance, lifting the weight dexterously.

Hayate no Gotoku ハヤテのごとく

it was a story of a princess n her new butler, who was very capable of taking care n protecting her from all harms way. his new life began after being abandoned by his parents n hired by a rich girl, as her personal butler. anime here: Hayate no Gotoku.

Piecemeal.

a soft, unintentional nudge from an outsider reminded her that all was well. moving slowly howbeit progressively towards a decisive design. their keenness shifted disturbingly coherent, from before to after, where benefits were clearly at stake.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1 (2010)

with voldemort growing more n more powerful, harry raced against time to destroy the Horcruxes (dark magical objects for voldemort to obtain immortality). they came across the story of the 3 most powerful objects in the wizarding world, the Deadthly Hallows. although we didn't expect this sequel to be productive, it was still far more disappointing. it started out exciting, but almost immediately after, it became dragging n most of the time, just waiting.

Debilitated.

face contorted in pain, she was bedridden as strength sipped out of her body, which failed in every way to respond in the way she intended it to. for days she dragged on, where day became night n night became day, drugged n barely conscious. lightheaded, she was utterly grateful for the warm embrace he continued to drape her in.

all the girls shared a similar fate of having their family members killed by bandits. they set out to take out the bandits only to find each other on the same mission. together they joined hands, allowing sisterhood to bring them closer to their goal. anime here: Koihime Musou.

Varmint.

out of curiosity, she mischievously squeezed herself through the hole, hoping it will fit. turning n thrashing against the grass n dirt only to find it gotten tighter n tighter against her waist. panicked, she whimpered, hoping someone would come n lend her a hand, freeing her before the sun sets behind the trees. yet afraid any sound she make will attract the callous behemoths that diabolically tracked her down.

Damage (2009)

being an ex-convict, he struggled his way through society being provoked n looked down upon. when his victim confronted him, demanding money to save her daughter's life, he joined a duo to earn money by battling in the cage. watchin Stone-cold in WWE n in movies are 2 different experiences. he did better in Expendables (2010), being all macho n deadly. in this movie, he was cheesy for going all doubtful n hesitant over every single decision, which he ended up being pushed around anyway. it was disappointing to watch.

Augment.

ensuingly, turbulences emerged only to be dissolved. with correct aim n attitude, solutions laid waiting at the doorstep. thus showing clear contrast of the vice versa. deserting the dwellers, advancing towards an enchanted offing.

Skyline (2010)

strange blue lights fell from the sky, attracting people like moths to flame. it took 3 days for the extraterrestrial / alien forces to swallow the entire human population, while secretly recycling the human brains. with awesome visual effect, the Strause brothers continued to feed our hungry eyes with beauty! however the plot was unfortunately, too short to please.

dog.

not knowing who its owner was, the dog was so friendly it would just approach anyone who gave a slight signal. while we looked at it curiously, it came over n sat right in front of us. left us both puzzled n thrilled, capturing many shots of it staring straight at us!

Ookami Kakushi (2010) おおかみかくし

he moved into the new city with his family. the city was famous for its citrus n wolves legend. when everyone showed interest in him n started vanishing, he realized that something was very wrong. the anime started out with eerie atmosphere, easily held my attention, wanting to know exactly what was the story about, n the cause of all the killings. the explanations came at the later part of the anime, but utmost satisfying, making the 12 episodes felt too short.

Altitude (2010)

a group of teenage friends went for a joyride, being kept secret from their parents. after a mysterious malfunction, their small rental plane went out of control. they found themselves trapped within a storm with a mysterious creature hidden within. giving a draggy atmosphere like Frozen (2010), yet not as gory as Final Destination (2000-2009), it was again another cheap horror flick. though lacked of bloody scenes, it was disturbing enough. yet when illogical scenes appeared contradictorily, it became so hilarious that the whole "horror-ness" of the film was destroyed.
